    The Mississippi Secretary of State Election Division will be scheduling regional election training for Municipal clerks and election commissioners.

    ew Mileage Reimbursement Rate Effective January 1.

     

    Please see the attached NEW Mileage Reimbursement Rate Memo Effective January 1, 2025.

     

     Reference:

    25-3-41. Reimbursement of travel expenses; section 2:

    (2) When any officer or employee of any county or municipality, or of any agency, board or commission thereof, after first being duly authorized, is required to travel in the performance of his official duties, the officer or employee shall receive as expenses Twenty Cents (20ยข) for each mile actually and necessarily traveled, when the travel is done by a privately owned motor vehicle; however, the governing authorities of a county or municipality may, in their discretion, authorize an increase in the mileage reimbursement of officers and employees of the county or municipality, or of any agency, board or commission thereof, in an amount not to exceed the mileage reimbursement rate authorized for officers and employees of the State of Mississippi in subsection (1) of this section. (Rate is listed in the attached MEMO)

    We are excited to announce that registration for our Spring CMO Night class is now open! This session will focus on Workplace Harassment, offering participants a thorough understanding of harassment in the workplace, its legal implications, and strategies to promote a safe and respectful work environment.

    Please find the attached flyer, which can be used to complete your registration. All registrations must be submitted directly to the MML.

    While these CMO Night classes are designed primarily for elected officials, municipal clerks are welcome to attend to earn additional CMC or MMC points.

    DFA Travel Regulations, Procurement Cards, and State Contracts

    Join this session to hear directly from the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) on travel guidelines, their credit card program designed for local governments, and the process for purchasing through state contracts. Gain valuable insights into managing travel expenses and procurement efficiently.

    Municipal Budgeting

    This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the municipal budgeting process, covering essential steps and best practices. Participants will have the opportunity for a Q&A session with experts from the Office of the State Auditor's Technical Assistance Division, ensuring a deeper understanding of budgeting intricacies.

    The Basics of Planning and Zoning

    Municipalities have a vital role in responsible planning and zoning. This session will cover foundational concepts, relevant laws, and regulations to help local officials navigate planning and zoning responsibilities effectively.

    Workplace Safety and Security

    Municipal officials face increasing risks such as 1st Amendment Auditors, Active Shooters, and Sovereign Citizens. The Office of Homeland Security will present an overview of these threats, de-escalation tactics, and practical safety measures that officials can implement to enhance workplace security.

    Athenian Dialogue

    We are excited to offer an Athenian Dialogue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This event requires pre-registration and has an additional fee of $50. The discussion will focus on the #1 New York Times Bestseller, "The Small and the Mighty: Twelve Unsung Americans Who Changed the Course of History, from the Founding to the Civil Rights Movement." Lunch will be provided for participants. Please ensure you have read the book prior to the event.

    Social Event

    We are tentatively planning a conference social event on Thursday evening. Additional information will be released later.

     

    Municipal Clerk Business Meeting

    The MMCCA Business Meeting will be held Friday April 11th from 11:00-12:00. This will be the final opportunity to earn a business meeting credit for those who wish to graduate at the 2025 MML Conference.
